Join us on Tuesday, February 21st to begin our Lenten journey together with a Cross † Generational Event.  The evening will begin at 5:45 pm with a Fat Tuesday Breakfast Dinner (Free Will Offering) and then at 6:30 pm  will will have crafts, caring conversations, and worship  together to help us learn more about our season of Lent.  Sign up on youth board or call the church office if you are planning to attend.

Lenten Worship Services

Lent will begin on Wednesday, February 22nd with Ash Wednesday services  at  noon and 7:00 pm. Imposition of ashes and Holy Communion will be offered at both services. The noon worship will be a shorter spoken service and the evening worship will have special music and particiapation by the Soli Dei choir.

On the following Wednesdays, our mid-week Lenten Services will be based around the theme, “God’s Story, Your Story – When His Becomes Yours”.  Members of our community of faith will be sharing their own faith journey and how scripture passages have played a role in their lives.  This series begins on February 29th;  we will have a Simple Supper at 6:00 pm and then worship from 7-7:30 pm.

Lent Opportunities: Prayer, Giving, and Giving Up

Devotional booklets for adults and families with children will be available at the Welcome Center in the narthex this Sunday. Also, Cross of Christ will be partnering with Flatirons Habitat for Humanity by asking you to pick up a Habitat House bank and fill it up during Lent. These funds will be used to help build a townhouse in Boulder that will become a home for a woman and her disabled son. Our congregation will have the opportunity to learn more about the ministry of Habitat during Lent and how your gifts can impact the lives of others. How about “giving up” a latte a week or lunch out or that pizza and putting the money in the Habitat bank?  

Sunday Morning Adult Class

Join the Adult Class on Sundays at 10:15am in the sanctuary for Max Lucado’s series “God’s Story, Your Story: When His Becomes Yours.” Through New Testament exploration and contemporary stories, you’ll discover how your life is part of God’s grander story. This is a great time to grow your faith during the Lenten season and talk with other adults about what it means to follow Jesus in our daily lives.

“A Night in Italy” – Preschool Silent Auction

The 7th Annual Cross of Christ Preschool Silent Auction will be on March 3rd from 4:oo pm – 7:00 pm.  Tickets are on sale on Sunday morning in the Narthex or during the week at the Preschool.  Tickets are $5 per ticket or $20 for a family.  The evening includes a Spaghetti Dinner and Dessert, Childcare, Live and Silent Auction items. Tuesday Night Live is this week on February 7, 2012.  Dinner begins at 5:45 pm (soup dinner).  At 6:30 pm there are activities for all ages (little kids have choir and crafts, 6-8 grade youth confirmation lesson, Sr. High Peer Ministry, and adult education opportunities).

This Tuesday there is also a Mentor Meeting for the confirmation parents and the youth’s mentors.  This meeting will be at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary.

Scout Sunday

This Sunday, February 12, 2012 we will celebrate Scout Sunday.  All of the boy and girl scouts are encouraged to come for a blessing at the 11:15 am worship service.  You are also encouraged to wear your uniform this Sunday.

Soli Dei Needs Your Voice on Good Friday

During our Good Friday service on April 6, Soli Dei (the choir for anyone 6th grade thru adult) will be singing selections from J.S. Bach’s major works including “St. John Passion.” We will be presenting this music with a chamber orchestra and need all the voices we can get. This means you! We will begin rehearsing this music this Wednesday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. until about 7:45. Rehearsals will continue throughout Lent. You do not have to participate in our regular Sunday commitment. Please come and join us for this special event! We had around 100 members yesterday for our Annual Meeting.  Congratulations to the folks who were elected to the church council and we give thanks to the outgoing members of the council for their service to the congregation.

New Member Classes

New Member classes begin THIS Sunday, January 15th – Sunday, February 5th.  This is a 4 week class held at 11:15 am in the Fellowship Hall.

These classes cover the Vision Statements of our congregation:  Worship, Learn, and Serve.  In these classes you will learn more on the history of our congregation, the ELCA, and the Lutheran church.  As well as different ways to be involved in the congregation. If you are interested in joining our faith community or learning more about us, please contact the church office this week.

Middle School Youth Gathering

The Rocky Mountain Synod Middle School Youth Gathering will be this weekend in Colorado Springs.  The theme this year is “Get Drenched….Drenched in Grace, Poured out in Love”.  We have 19 middle school students and 6 adults attending, and they will be joining the 800 other participants from the Rocky Mountain Synod, for fun, fellowship, and prayer.  Please keep all these kids and adults in your prayers this weekend.

Bach Cantata

An die Musik will be presenting “And This Shall Be for Music”  a performance featuring two of J.S. Bach’s Cantatas.  There will be an Open Rehearsal on  Monday, January 16th at 6:30 pm at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.  Come to hear a working presentation of these two amazing works.  The Performance will be Saturday, January 21st at 7:30 pm at Christ Church Denver  2950 S. University Blvd.  Free Admission.

Christmas Eve Worship Services

4pm–A shorter service for all but especially families with young children; special music by Proclaim Praise Team

5:30, 7:30 and 11pm–traditional services with special music from Soli Dei choir and others. Children’s Sermons at 5:30 and 7:30; a nursery is offered at 5:30 and 7:30.

All services will have carols, candlelight and Holy Communion. All are welcome to come to the Lord’s Table.

Congregational Meeting Results:

At a Congregational Meeting last Sunday the congregation voted to proceed with a building addition.   A floorplanof the two-story building is displayed in the fellowship hall.  Site work will begin in early 2012 and constructin will start on Easter Monday, April 9th.

During the Christmas Festival of Music on December 4th a special offering was taken to establish a scholarship for one of our youth to attend the Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival on the campus of Luther College.  The goal of $500 for this initial scholarship was reached plus $847 to support the music minstry here at Cross of Christ.
