We are blessed to have amazing leadership at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church!
Meet our Staff
I can’t remember a time that God and the church was not a part of my life. I would be considered a “cradle Lutheran”. My father was a Lutheran pastor for over 35 years. I grew up in Iowa, living in parsonages, and the church being a major part of our life together as a family. I remember as a young child, playing in my dad’s office, and going on communion calls and hospital visits with him. I attended Wartburg College, in Waverly Iowa, majoring in political science and psychology. In 1998, I graduated from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. I served churches in Waverly, IA and Frederika, IA and then accepted a call as associate pastor to Cross of Christ in 2006. I was then called as Lead Pastor in 2018. Colorado has been a wonderful place to raise our family and the congregation has been a blessing to us. I love working the families of the church and to be able to share God’s word with even the littlest of our members. I oversee Stewardship, Long Range Planning, and Finance. I also oversee and work closely with the staff on Faith Formation and Worship. I am married to Tim, who is a Middle School ELL teacher. We have two boys, Brune who is 18 years old and Kaden who is 15 years old. They keep me busy outside of church with football, wrestling, track, and musical concerts. I am also very fortunate to have my parents so close by living in Allenspark, and yet they travel down the mountain to worship with our children.
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, going to church was a strange thing – except in my family. We went to church regularly, in addition to being involved in sports and music. South of Seattle, I was surrounded by beautiful mountains and trees – reminiscent in some ways of this part of Colorado.
I attended Whitworth University in Spokane, WA, and graduated with a degree in Sociology. After college I worked at Lutherhaven Ministries (a church camp) outside of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for a year, before going to St. Paul, MN, for seminary. A couple of days after starting seminary, I met my future wife, Katie (also a pastor), while playing ultimate frisbee.
After I graduated from seminary in 2014, Katie and I got married and then spent a year in South Africa, Cameroon, and western Europe, studying preaching and culture. When we returned to the States in 2015, we began serving calls in eastern Montana. While serving in Glendive, I also coached track and field for two seasons in the town of Terry.
In 2018, I was called to Cross of Christ. I am excited to for the road to come, and how we can learn together to share the message of the Gospel through word and deed, from youngest to oldest and everyone in between.
Music has always been the catalyst of my faith journey, and fuel for my soul. Music has been where I have most often encountered God; through its mysterious power to tease emotions I did not know I could have, or in molding words of faith into divinely crafted structures of the heart. God has granted me the gift of using music to know Him.In the midst of my studies as a music composition major at the University of Colorado, I had a chance opportunity to work as a music intern at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church. After working with my childhood teacher, and lifelong mentor, John Kuzma, I discovered my calling to ministry. In many of my experiences as an intern, I saw deeper into the power and importance music has in our worship and faith. My own faith strengthened through the transformative events in my life that centered around the church. I feel blessed to know my calling and joyfully serve my own part in the Great Commission.Today, I enjoy leading many of the music ensembles at Cross of Christ and overseeing the entire music ministry. I also enjoy arranging and composing music for various ensembles in the Denver Metropolitan area and around the country. My wife, Rachel, and I have been happy to have made Cross of Christ our home since we joined in 2010.
Laura Anderson, a Minnesota native arrives in Colorado with nearly 20 years of experience in youth and family ministry. Laura has served congregations in Minnesota, Kansas, Ohio, Washington, and Alaska. Laura has also served on camp staffs in Alaska, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Laura joined the staff at Cross of Christ in November 2019 and looks forward to working with the youth, their families, the community of Cross of Christ and the greater Denver area.
I was born and raised in Perrysburg, Ohio where I attended Zoar Lutheran Church with my family. I moved to Colorado after graduating with a B.F.A. in Visual Arts and English at Albion College, Michigan. I earned my K-12 teaching certification from Colorado State University. While teaching middle school art and reading in the Firestone area, I completed my Masters in Literacy. After ten years, I left the public school system to pursue private tutoring, free-lance writing and my own artwork. During this time, my family joined Cross of Christ and my son began attending the church’s preschool. Inspired by the wonderful preschool staff, I completed my preschool certification, thinking I would return to teaching. However, the Director of Children’s Ministry position opened and I was honored to be chosen.
Teaching is my passion and to have the opportunity to walk along side children as they learn about God’s love and grace is an incredible blessing.
I moved to Colorado when I was 2 ½ and because I don’t remember anything before I moved here, I consider myself a native. I am a lifelong Lutheran, raised in Colorado Springs where my family attended First Lutheran Church and my brothers and I attended Immanuel Lutheran School.
I earned my BA as well as met my husband, Jon, at The University of Wyoming (Go Pokes!). We have a daughter in college and a son in High School.
We found Cross of Christ almost 20 years ago. My husband and I had visited several churches before Cross of Christ but after our first visit here, we knew that we had found the right church for us.
My faith has grown tremendously in the years that we have been members here, which I believe is directly related to my involvement in the ministries here at Cross of Christ. Being involved has helped me develop relationships with many wonderful people, provided me with opportunities to learn and make decisions about what it means to me to be a follower of Christ, and given me the chance to share His love with others.
I took over the Congregational Life Coordinator position in April 2015 and really enjoy working with the staff and congregation of Cross of Christ. Most people have to keep quiet about their faith at work and I am so thankful that I get to work in a place that allows me to share it!
I was born and raised in the Twin Cities (MN) area where I attended Christ Lutheran Church with my family. I earned my BA in Business Administration/Accounting at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN before moving to Colorado in 1997. I spent many years working as an auditor at a public accounting firm in Denver and eventually in administration at a local Denver restaurant company. I was also a stay at home mom for 10 years. My husband, Jason, and I moved to Broomfield in 2007 and found Cross of Christ shortly thereafter. We were looking for a welcoming faith community with strong children’s programs to get involved in with our three kids. Between the preschool, Sunday School and youth programs, we feel we have hit the jackpot here! I took over as the Financial Secretary of the church in February 2016. This position has been such a blessing to me and I have really enjoyed working with such a wonderful group of people.
I was born in New York and lived on Long Island until I was 9, when my family moved to Colorado. I’ve had a passion for working with children for as long as I can remember, from working in my church nursery and VBS to being immersed in the field of early childhood education for the last 18 years. I have had the privilege of working with young children from birth through age 6, and what I love most is watching children learn, grow, and change as they develop trusting relationships with their caregivers.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I found Cross of Christ Preschool and Kindergarten in the spring of 2009. It has been a blessing and a joy to work as the Assistant Director for the last eight years, and I am looking forward to leading a team of amazing early childhood professionals as I step into my new role as the Preschool Director.
My husband Jay is a high school music teacher in the Adams 12 school district and we have two daughters, who are 7 and 9 years old. As I continue my lifelong journey of growing in my faith, family, and career, I am constantly reminded that I am blessed beyond measure.
