8th Grade Requirements

2023 Final Confirmation Final Expectations

Seder Meal:
Passover is the ancient Jewish festival of Israel’s deliverance from slavery in Egypt. For many, many generations, it has been observed with a feast called the Seder, which is a family meal and a worship service with much praying and much eating. The 8th Grade Confirmation students and their parents are invited for special evening celebrating this festival.  In observing the Passover Seder, we as Christians are borrowing a tradition from the living faith of Judaism.  This is a wonderful opportunity for those families to experience the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples during which he instituted the Lord’s Supper.

Faith Statement and Personal Bible Verse:
Youth write a personal statement of faith, as well as choose Bible verse that has personal meaning.

Ninth Grade Retreat:
Youth have a retreat during the summer before their Ninth grade year to discuss the five promises they will make during the service of Affirmation of Baptism.  These five promises will help them formulate their personal statement of faith.  This time is a celebration of their Confirmation journey, and a look forward to the next step in their faith journey.

Council Meeting:
The youth come to council on the second Tuesday in October and share their faith statements and express their desire to become a full member of the congregation. The council votes to affirm the youth as adult members of Cross of Christ.

Affirmation of Baptism Service is on Reformation Sunday (Last Sunday in October) each year.
