Pastor Kirsten Laderach
Kirsten Laderach is a pastor with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is currently serving as the Country Coordinator for YAGM (Young Adults in Global Mission) in Madagascar. YAGM is designed for young adults to provide a one-year service opportunity in leadership development, service, spiritual growth, global awareness, and understanding. She works closely with Malagasy Lutheran churches, faith-based groups, and non-governmental organizations.
Before arriving in Madagascar last spring she had been serving as a pastor in a church in Stockton, California, Zion Lutheran Church, and before that she graduated from Luther Seminary with a Masters of Divinity.
Her work in Madagascar is mainly around the needs, placement, and support of the Young Adults who come to Madagascar yearly. She works with placement sites to understand their needs and see where a volunteer might be helpful. She also accesses the community’s ability to host and support a volunteer for the year. She makes modifications within sites and create new sites as appropriate and visit each site twice a year. She offers pastoral support to the YAGM’s and organizes the in-country orientation. She is also working to be involved with the Women Theologians and the Youth Leadership of the FLM (Malagasy Lutheran Church) as well.
Mada Matters is her quarterly newsletter about her experiences in Madagascar working with YAGM and the FLM (the Malagasy Lutheran Church.) Here is her most recent newsletter: Newsletter April 2020. You can also read her blog at http://www.madagascarvaovao.
